NaPoWriMo Day 5

Hello Readers,

Welcome to Day 5 of my NaPoWriMo writing challenge, where I will be writing and posting a new poem everyday for the whole of April!

Todays poem is called Another Year.

Another year has passed again,
How I've aged so much in a day,
Fine lines that I want to refrain,
I wish they'd all just go away,
What happened to my soft skin,
My thin frame and young eyes,
Whenever did I begin,
To conceal my age with white lies,
When did those crow’s feet begin to appear,
And, since when did they call me mam,
Too haggard to approach for a beer,
I'm no longer a baby lamb,
I wish I could age gracefully,
But I haven't got a clue,
Legs of silk turned woolly,
Fixing wrinkles with superglue,
Why can't I be young forever,
I would often ask,
Without skin as tough as leather,
Or even wearing a mask,
How to slow the process down,
Is a question indeed,
Reverse the lines from my frown,
Relying on glasses to read,
But, I guess there's certain benefits to getting old,
Bingo, oap specials, free buses, and retirement,
Knowledge and wisdom, worth their weight in gold,
My get up and go just got up and went,
But, I guess I'm lucky to age that way,
Life is for living and should be fun,
As I celebrate my twenty eighth birthday,
I'll remember my journey has just begun.

Thanks for reading,
Louise Lake.
